Recently, Chinese scientific research teams have made remarkable progress in the field of aluminum alloy cable. Kunming University of Science and Technology, in cooperation with a number of domestic institutions, has successfully developed a new type of heat-resistant aluminum alloy conductor with a strength of 195±2 MPa while maintaining a conductivity of 61.1%. This breakthrough not only breaks the record of the performance of heat-resistant aluminium alloy cable under industrial production conditions, but also has important significance for promoting the high-quality development of China's green aluminum industry.

The research team of Kunming University of Science and Technology creatively proposed a new method based on the previous systematic study of the effects of different processes on the microstructure and strength, conductivity and heat resistance of aluminum-zirconium alloy cable. They prepared a high-strength, high-conductivity, heat-resistant aluminum alloy conductor by continuous casting and rolling fine grain strengthening, over-aging full precipitation of solid solution zirconium atoms to significantly improve the conductivity of the alloy, and cold drawing deformation strengthening synergy. After the conductor is kept at 280℃ for 1 hour, its strength retention rate can reach 94%, showing extremely high stability and reliability.
This new research result is of great significance to meet the needs of ultra-high voltage, long-distance, and large-capacity power transmission.
